Vero Beach Mural Project Call to Artists
Deadline for Submission: January 1, 2020
The Vero Beach Mural Project is now accepting submissions for a mural to be located on the side of the new FPL Substation on Indian River Drive, just south of 17th Street Bridge.
The theme of the mural will be the “Changing the Current” (FPL slogan that will be painted on the wall, along the bottom) specifically concerning the Indian River Lagoon, our ecosystem, nature, etc. The wall is approximately 175’ x 10’. This wall is on a heavily trafficked road, design should be cognizant of this, in the sense that the piece should consist of large, bold graphics that can be viewed from a distance.
Artist Eligibility & Other Requirements
The project is open to all artists/groups in Vero Beach and surrounding areas. All artists must abide by the project guidelines.
Artists may apply as an individual or as a group; however, each participating artist must separately execute the below application. Group submissions shall only be considered complete if each group member’s signed application is included.
Applicants having 1+ years of experience painting large-scale, outdoor murals are preferred.
Selected artists will be required to sign and comply with the Final Mural Agreement.
Artists will have to submit a W9.
The artist(s) must be able to keep the content of their work “family friendly,” no nudity, pornography, profanity, or any offensive material. The artist(s) will be asked to refrain from painting anything that defames or invades the rights of any person, living or dead; or anything that could be construed as harmful to a third party.
Selected artists may be asked to submit details, models, or plans of their eventual piece.
Artists under 18 years of age must have parental consent and work under an adult advisor.
The Program is open to all artists regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation, or mental or physical handicap.
Submissions will be reviewed by the Downtown Vero Beach Mural Project and FPL. The group will review each artist’s (or group’s) application and a conceptual sketch or representation of what you are proposing. All submissions will be considered, we will select three to five finalists, and
these artists will be paid a stipend of $200 to produce a complete design, which will be reviewed by FPL. Final decision will be made by FPL. Compensation will be discussed with the artist who has been selected at that time.
